Manager, Maintenance Department

Education Requirement:
A Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Manufacturing Technology, or other related fields is preferred.
Substitute for Education:
A lesser degree and/or six to ten years of second level maintenance managing experience in a documented food-related industry position may be accepted.
Role Purpose Statement:
This is a management exempt position, responsible for managing all aspects of the Maintenance Department's operations to ensure expectations are met in regards to productivity, quality and safety.

Summary:
The person in this position is responsible for managing plant maintenance activities across multiple shifts and all company facility areas, eliminating causes of failure and ensuring full use/full life of assets in coordination with predictive maintenance, production and packaging equipment diagnosis/repair and emergency response. Implements standard work and maintains improvement through sustaining behaviors, operating with discipline and rigor and implementing autonomous maintenance within company guidelines. Oversee the execution of maintenance response to fulfill internal customer requirements. Controls and effectively utilizes the maintenance capacity, manpower and equipment and outside resources through planning, organizing and scheduling to minimize losses; works within the framework of the Maintenance Department budget to optimize company profitability.
Required Skills and Knowledge:
1. Strong presentation, communication, training, leadership, project management and interpersonal skills.
2. Acquired knowledge of, and experience operating in a Food Manufacturing environment with six to ten years in a lead/management position.
3. Excellent analytical and conceptual skills.
4. Knowledge and developed skill level to make complex mathematical computations to determine budget, productivity and other standard calculations related to the essential functions of this position.
5. Interpersonal skills adequate to work and communicate in a multi-culture work environment.
6. Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with employees, supervisors and the general public.
7. Intermediate knowledge of MS Office and basic knowledge of MS Dynamics preferred.
8. Must be a team player and be able to interact with staff at all levels of the company.
9. Must be able to work under pressure, meet deadlines, and be flexible in working on multiple projects simultaneously.
10. Excellent time-management skills with the ability to work independently with little supervision or technical guidance.
11. The ability to be a change agent and someone who is able to make it happen while building positive relationships.
12. The ability to collaborate with Production and Senior Management on changes in the manufacturing process.
13. Working knowledge of automated production and packaging machinery operation which may include: liquid filling, vertical form fill/seal, capping, labeling, case packing, sealing, palletizing, steamers, roasters, grain milling, conveyor systems, inkjet and laser coding, PLC's, VFD's, servos and robotics.
14. Knowledge of pumps, pneumatics, hydraulics, facilities maintenance, HVAC, refrigeration, and energy conservation.
15. Knowledge and skill level to accurately diagnose and direct repair techniques which minimize production down time.
16. Working knowledge of plumbing, electrical, welding and fabrication, painting and general parts specifications necessary to effect predictive maintenance and urgent/emergent repairs.
17. Ability to systematically dismantle equipment, replace/repair defective parts, re-assemble equipment, and make necessary adjustments to ensure efficient operation. My occasionally require fabrication of parts.
18. Meet and maintain compliance with requirements set forth on the ADA check sheet for this position.
Essential Functions:
1. Plan, organize, direct, and manage the Maintenance Department with regard to daily hours, employee schedules, productivity, quality and safety. Ensure optimal deployment of human, technical and material resources.
2. Establish and communicate performance expectations and take corrective action as necessary on a timely basis in accordance with company policy. Make company's values and management principles alive in the Maintenance Department. Respond appropriately to employee grievances. Consult with Personnel/Human Resources Department as appropriate to each situation.
3. Ensure compliance with current federal, state and local regulations in all aspects of the Maintenance Department i.e. FDA, BOLI, EEOC, ADA, etc.
4. Guide, motivate and develop the subordinate employees. Participate in coaching career-development-activities to enhance the effectiveness and potential of the team. Provide employee training to ensure that employees are performing job responsibilities safely and effectively.
5. Evaluate performance, communicate with employees, and provide information for performance improvements.
6. Act as liaison between subordinate levels and Senior Management to inform personnel of communications, decisions, policies, and all matters that affect their performance, attitudes and results.
7. Lead, mentor, and direct Maintenance Department personnel in developing and maintaining characteristics consistent with the concepts of continuous improvement.
8. Maintains a close working knowledge of the safe and proper operation of Maintenance Department equipment.
9. Consistently pursue the implementation of a safety culture that values all employees working safely with others around them. Support plant and company safety programs, promoting and maintaining a high level of awareness and adherence to defined employee safety requirements such as lock-out/tag-out, personal protective equipment and confined space entry. Perform ongoing monitoring of areas with extreme safety considerations i.e. wheat roasting, soy steaming and confined entry spaces for safety compliance.
10. Assist others in the development/formulation of company long/short-range planning, policies, programs and objectives.
11. Coordinate efforts to maintain optimal flow by working with company Logistics Systems, Final Products Department, Brewing Department, QA/ QC, Senior Management and HR/Personnel. Also work with these groups and follow through to ensure effective countermeasures are being established when problems occur.
12. Provide data for the development of an annual budget for the Maintenance Department. Plan, implement and control the final approved budget in the Maintenance Department; initiate and steer corrective actions in case of deviations.
13. Ensure compliance with GMP, customer specifications, quality standards, Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP), safety, health, environmental and other regulations. Initiate and control continuous optimization of processes. Investigate quality issues, develop and implement corrective actions.
14. Develop systems to track, monitor, and improve processes in all maintenance practices including but not limited to: safety, quality, delivery, and cost. Ensure all daily maintenance documents are completed and accurate.
15. Direct the establishment, implementation and maintenance of policies with regards to safety, continuous improvement strategies, maintenance standards and techniques, quality, cost reduction, complete and on-time repairs and change-overs, customer satisfaction, employee relations, visual controls, and overall maintenance performance.
16. Maintain an ongoing, positive and pro-active relationship with all internal and external customers.
17. Functions with limited direct supervision or technical guidance. Initiate, coordinate, and manage special projects as needed (i.e. facility changes, installation of capital equipment etc.).
18. Keep all company formulations, ingredients, test methods, and other trade related information in confidence.Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
