The Transportation business unit has four main business streams - surface transportation, aviation, fleet maintenance and infrastructure services, with over 1000 personnel providing these services in the federal, state and local markets. Our transportation surface and infrastructure business includes traffic control centers, intelligent system specification, deployment and maintenance, traveler information systems, back office capabilities, program management, congestion management and general operations. Our business with state and local governments include parking management systems and technicality upgrades and parking enforcement. In addition we provide fleet maintenance services to a number of public utilities and municipal authorities.

Job Description:
Responsible for monitoring systems and dispatching appropriate resources to detected and/or reported incidents; including coordination of safety personnel and location assistance to first responders. Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field. Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. A certain degree of creativity and latitude is expected. Works under general supervision. The Salem Transportation Operations Center (TOC) is responsible for monitoring traffic conditions throughout Virginia's Southwest Region, communicating travel conditions to the motoring public, and coordinating highway response to provide VA's motorists a safe and efficient travel experience.
Principal functions:
Work in a control room environment using CCTV to detect, verify, and monitor events (primarily on the Interstate system)
Coordinate dispatch of highway responders (Safety Service Patrol)
Generate and manage traveler information (i.e. posting messages on electronic signs, highway advisory radio, and Virginia 511 traveler service outlets)
Monitor and respond to various data sources (e.g. Police Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) and other communications channels)
Coordination with emergency agencies and other responders
Report generation / Database entry

Required Skills and
Experience:

A certain degree of creativity and latitude is expected. Works under general supervision. Work is generally performed in a normal office environment where there is minimal exposure to unpleasant and/or hazardous working conditions. Job assignments may require working at client site where working conditions may vary. Travel may be required.
