Legislative Administration is recruiting to hire approximately 15 Session Committee Administrators to staff session committees for the 2015 Legislative Session.
Committee Administrators support the legislative process by working with a committee chair to develop and execute the committee work plan, perform necessary research, provide analytical skills and communication, and manage the administrative tasks of the committee.
Positions will begin January 5, 2015 and end soon after committees close (approximately June 2015).
DUTIES &
Responsibilities:
Committee Organization and Administration
Assists committee chair in establishing committee work plan and priorities, and developing committee agendas. Reviews drafts of committee rules; schedules meetings; arranges for facilities; identifies persons and interest groups to be notified; solicits testimony and coordinates presentations; attends committee meetings; assists chair and committee members with application of legislative rules and procedures; monitors committee deliberations and decisions for necessary follow-up. Arranges for meetings of interest groups. Identifies and explains basic positions of legislative measure opponents and proponents. Uses legislative measure processing application.
Research
Performs research into current law, policies, and past legislative history affecting proposed legislation and committee issue areas. Describes past policy decisions and current options in assigned subject areas. Conducts short-term research projects for committee members and other lawmakers as is feasible.
Legislation Analysis and Tracking
Reviews bills sent to committee; prepares and delivers subject matter background and analysis to committee members. Identifies areas of consensus, reviews material, and summarizes options contained therein for chair and members. Confers with Fiscal and Revenue Officers or agencies regarding impact of legislation. Develops means of tracking and monitoring legislation and plans for timely completion. Confers with Legislative Counsel in drafting measures and amendments and resolving conflicts. Hand-engrosses amendments and develops amendment explanations and worksheets for committee members.
Communication
Receives and responds to request for materials, research, or investigations. Responds to legislative leadership inquiries regarding proposed legislation before the committee. Participates in planning sessions with chair. Writes position statements, letters, and resolutions resulting from committee actions. Summarizes research results. Explains impact of options identified. Explains relevance of related statutes, court decisions, or rules. Drafts speech material and staff measure analysis for use by members during floor discussions. Prepares written analyses of public policy, including current law and proposed legislation. Presents analyses in writing and orally to legislators, committee chairs, committees, and legislative leadership offices.
Project Coordination
Coordinates projects in assigned areas in consultation with Committee Services manager, including determining project scope, timelines, and resource needs. Coordinates projects with professional staff from other legislative offices. Oversees projects of administrative support staff.
Works with manager of Committee Services to develop information products. Other assignments as determined by Committee Services manager or Legislative Administrator.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
